Essential for ski touring, binding knives enhance safety on steep slopes and hard or icy snow, where climbing skins may fall short. While they don’t replace mountaineering crampons, they improve grip and help you ascend until conditions require taking your skis off (ice, rocks, or very steep terrain).

For optimal performance, allow a few millimeters of clearance on each side so the knife doesn’t touch the ski edges when folded. Choose a model suited to your ski’s waist width.
